Egg Donor:
Surgical removal of an egg from one woman for transfer into the fallopian tube or uterus of another woman.
Ejaculate:
Sperm combines with fluid from the seminal vesicle and a thick secretion from the prostate gland. This fluid is discharged during orgasm through the penis.
Embryo:
This term is used to describe the early stages of fetal growth, from conception to the eighth week of pregnancy.
Embryo Adoption:
A process in which artificial insemination of a woman with donor sperm results in an embryo that is implanted into a second woman. This is called Artificial Embryonation.
Endometrial Biopsy:
The extraction of a small sample of uterine tissue for examination. This procedure is usually done to show evidence of ovulation or to diagnose hormonal levels.
Endometrium:
The mucus membrane lining the uterus.
Estradiol:
A hormone released by developing follicles in the ovary. Plasma estradiol levels are used to help determine progressive follicular growth during ovulation induction.
Estrogen:
A category of female hormones, produced mainly by the ovaries from puberty until menopause. These hormones are responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics.
